NEW ZEALAND BLIND & VISION IMPAIRED
INDOOR BOWLER'S FEDERATION
48th NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The blind and vision impaired indoor bowls National Championships were held in Dunedin over Labour Weekend (October 2001).
The tournament venue was the Metropolitan Club.
Over 100 blind and partially sighted people took part in, Fours, Pairs and singles championships over the three days.
Teams were entered from, Auckland, Counties, Hamilton, Cambridge, Rotorua, Gisborne, Napier, Hastings, Wellington, North Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu, Canterbury and Otago.

The Otago Indoor Bowls Association hosted and ran the tournament for us. The Federation thanks them for all their work and making it such a successful tournament.

The A G M was held on the Friday evening and here are the names of the Executive for 2002. President - Mr Joseph Twomey, Vice President - Mrs Grace Wheeler, Past President - John Manchester, Secretary - Mrs Phyllis Fox, Treasurer - Mrs Joy Thompson.
The committee are Peter McGlinchey, Peter Dunlop, Owen Palamountain and Iris Roberts.

Thank you to all of those who took part in the tournament, players, guides and helpers which makes it such a wonderful championships as it always is.

The Winner of the Champion of Champion Partially Sighted Singles and the Lockhead Shield was BARRY CADMAN, Rotorua.

The Winner of the Champion of Champion Totally Blind Singles and the Welch & Gray Trophy was WILLIE MARONGA, Hamilton.

The Winner of the Ladies Totally Blind Singles and the Gunning Memorial Cup was COLLEEN IVE, Canterbury.

The Runner Up in the Ladies Totally Blind Singles and the Winner of the Ridling Cup was MARTINE ABEL, Auckland.

The Winner of the Ladies Partially Sighted Singles and the Boles Cup was ZOLA BRITTAIN, Rotorua.

The Runner Up in the Ladies Partially Sighted Singles and the Winner of the Fraser Family Trophy was DOREEN COUCHMAN, Hamilton.

The Winner of the Mens Totally Blind Singles and the Lovelock Cup was WILLIE MARONGA, Hamilton.

The Runner Up in the Mens Totally Blind Singles and the Winner of the Clifford Cup was DAVID PETTIGREW, Manawatu.

The Winner of the Mens Partially Sighted Singles and the Ivan Lovelock Cup was BARRY CADMAN, Rotorua.

The Runner Up in the Mens Partially Sighted Singles and the Winner of the Cox Family Trophy was KEN FREDRICKSON, Wanganui.

The Winner of the Championship Pairs and the Harris Trophy were CLEM RURUKU and JOE TWOMEY, Wanganui.

The Runner Up in the Championship Pairs and the Winner of the Auckland Guides Trophy were KEN JOYCE and MARTINE ABEL, Auckland.

The Winner of the Championship Fours and the Rosebowl Cup were KEN JOYCE, BILL SKYNER, ALAN MALCOLM and JOHN PUHARA, Auckland.

The Runner Up in the Championship Fours and the Winner of the Alma Pye Trophy were SUZIE TUKARIRI, GARY WILLIAMSON, JOHN MANCHESTER and MARTINE ABEL, Auckland.

The Winners of the Federation Cup for the Best Performed of the Fours Qualifying teams were SUZIE TUKARIRI, GARY WILLIAMSON, JOHN MANCHESTER and MARTINE ABEL, Auckland.

The Champion Province and the Winner of the Bailes Cup was WANGANUI.


1997 TOURNAMENT RESULTS

The 44th National Championships were held in Auckland during Labour weekend 1997 are now over and hopefully we can look back on a successful tournament.
