2002
NEW ZEALAND BLIND & VISION IMPAIRED
INDOOR BOWLER'S FEDERATION
49th NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Blind Indoor Bowls New Zealand held their 49th National Championships in Napier over Labour Weekend (October 2002) in the Napier Indoor Bowls Association Centre.

Over 100 competitors took part this year along with their guides in Open Fours, Pairs and Singles over the three day weekend.

There were a good number of teams from throughout New Zealand including Auckland, Counties, Hamilton, Cambridge, Rotorua, Gisborne, Napier, Hastings, Wanganui, Manawatu, North Taranaki, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago.

As you will notice, in the following list of trophy winners, Wanganui this year, is the province with the largest success.

Congratulations to all the winners and to all those people who gave it their best shot but didn't quite get there this time, more luck next time.

This was our third time to compete in Napier over the past 12 years and as always, the weather was kind to us. Although we play indoors for three days, it is always nice to go outside in the breaks and get a bit of fresh air without the rain pouring down on you!

Our thanks to the Napier Indoor Bowls Association for all their hard work running this tournament. Without their help, there would be no chasmpionships.

The BINZ AGM was held on the Friday evening and the new Executive is as follows:
President - Mr John Manchester, Vice President - Mrs Grace Wheeler, Immediate Past President - Mr Joe Twomey, Secretary - Mrs Phyllis Fox, Treasurer - Mrs Joy Thompson.
Committee - Mrs Iris Roberts, Mr Peter McGlinchey, Peter Dunlop, and Mr Owen Palamountain.

Next years tournament will be held in Wellington over Labour Weekend 2003 and this will be our 50th Jubilee Celebration.
